We have installed a 330kWp solar power system on a 550,000 sq ft distribution centre in Derby. Open 24/7 year-round and with a capacity of 100 trailer docks, this distribution centre has substantial energy demands, driving an annual energy bill of nearly £200,000. Despite advanced building management systems (BMS), full LED lighting, and state-of-the-art fire systems, management sought additional ways to cut energy costs.
In Phase 1, we have installed 300kWp of solar panels, paired with an advanced Tigo optimisation system. Tigo not only enhances energy efficiency and monitoring down to a panel level but also integrates with the fire safety system, offering rapid shutdown functionality, manual stop capabilities, and firefighting switches strategically placed around the building. This system is expected to reduce current energy bills by 25-30%, significantly offsetting operational costs.
Additionally, we secured a new advanced tariff for imported electricity, delivering an additional 10% cost reduction over typical rates for facilities of this size. Our team handled every project phase, from coordination with insurers, landlords, and solar surveyors to planning, building control, and local airport regulations, ensuring seamless execution up to final approval.
